SEMINARI ELINET

El 6 d’octubre, la Dra. Julie Waddington, Coordinadora de la XID-EME, va participar als seminaris EMI Research Series organised by ELINET (Education, Language and Internationalisation Network) with the support of the University of Glasgow, Scotland. He made it with the titled report “A Teaching Innovation Network As A Catalyst For Change And Professional Development: EME At The University Of Girona”.

Recording of the seminar

Here is the summary of the seminar:

This seminar will present work carried out within an EME Teaching Innovation Network at the University of Girona, Catalonia. We will begin by describing the nature and objectives of the network before focusing on the key activities carried out during its first years. We will focus in particular on a professional development initiative carried out during the academic year 2021-2022 in which members of the network shared their experiences teaching subjects through the medium of English. An in-depth thematic analysis of these experiences yielded interesting findings concerning the challenges, difficulties and benefits of EME. A Handbook was created to share these findings with current and future EME teachers at the university. The Handbook provides an experience-based perspective which aims to guide teachers through some of the thorny issues related to EME while simultaneously introducing them to some key literature in the field. We conclude the seminar by considering the potential of such grassroots initiatives for stimulating professional development and acting as a catalyst for change within university settings.

English Medium Education Meeting

The meeting was held at the Faculty of Business and Economic Sciences on Tuesday, 11 July, 2023. About forty teachers from the UdG took part.

The goal of the meeting was to stimulate reflection and discussion about the use of English in university classes.

The programme included the lecture “EME as Aladdin's magic lamp” by Dr Nicola Galloway, of the University of Glasgow, practical workshops to discuss the practical experiences of participants and a round table moderated by Sílvia Aznar of the ICE Josep Pallach, with Andreu Pulido from the Modern Language Service, Glòria Mateu, Mònica Puntí and Marc Yeste from the XID EME and Julie Waddington, coordinator of the XID EME.
