Descripció:
Tot i que aquesta assignatura es realitzarà en llengua anglesa (això vol dir que les classes seran en anglès i els textos també), els i les estudiants poden emprar la llengua que desitgin tant a classe com en els seus treballs. El professor també facilitarà la comprensió de les classes amb la traducció al català dels powerpoints que es passin a classe. Tot i que en les diferents assignatures del grau de treball social els casos pràctics i exemples sobre persones gitanes han estat relativament habituals, cap curs ha entrat en profunditat en la història i la situació actual del poble gitano. Són molts encara els aspectes que desconeixem de la població gitana i que fan que el mite, molt condicionat pels estereotips, acabi condicionant la nostra visió de les persones gitanes. Per això, és important no només conéixer a fons els orígens de la població gitana, la seva diversitat interna i mobilització política en les darreres dècades. També és cabdal per entendre i aprendre com la nostra societat pot arribar a ser més inclusiva i humana. Els objectius de l’assignatura són els següents: - Entendre la complexitat de la població gitana. - Saber discernir adequadament i de forma crítica entre el mite i la realitat del poble gitano. - Comprendre, analitzar i identificar, de forma crítica i reflexiva, tant vies d’exclusió social de la població gitana com, especialment, vies d’inclusió i cohesió social.

Students must submit 3 written answers to the questions to each theme that the professor will post on the online platform the week before. Students can chose those readings and policy documents they want to read, make their three contributions and must attend to these three classes. In case they could not attend to the corresponding class, they have to provide a justified reason for their absence. The length of these responses will be approximately of 500 words and will be posted in the respective folder of the online platform the day before to each class (before midnight, no extensions will be provided).

Responses must address the content of the readings but not only be descriptive. Students should analyze data and evidence provided in the readings and be critical without providing their solely opinion. Racist comments or statements will be forbidden. In writing your contribution please, take into account you can do it through different perspectives. Please, state this clearly when you write. At least one of your contributions must be carried out through a devil’s advocate point of your own position. The written responses should take the following questions into account:

• Am I answering any of the questions posed by the professor?
• Am I identifying what is the proposal of the author(s), what is the cause of inaction
according to the author(s) if any?
• Am I suggesting questions to my classmates regarding the contents of the readings?

In case that on December, 1th 2016 you have not posted these 3 written answers without justified reasons you will fail the subject

A4-page policy action plan of any of the following fields (Education,Employment,Health or Housing) promoting Romani inclusion together with another classmate. You can contextualize the plan into a given context where Romani people live. This action plan must take into account the approaches shown in the readings and some contents developed during the classes. About the Policy plan you need to contextualize the plan into a given context where Romani people live. This action plan must take into account the approaches shown in the readings and some contents developed during the classes. You must also present the plan to your classmates on the date of the exam and answer the questions properly.
