• CURS ACADÈMIC 2004/2005 GENERAL OBJECTIVES: At the end of the course students will need to be able to: - Discriminate, understand and make the sound contrasts -segmental and supra-segmental - of the English Language. - Improve the pronunciation of the English Language. - Become familiar with all the symbols of the phonetic alphabet. - A good command of phonetic transcription will be required as well.

12. - strong and weak forms.

13. - stressed and non-stressed syllables.

14. - rhythm units.

15. - intonation: the falling tune, the rising tune, the falling-rising tune. Ear training.

Mètodes docents:
PRACTICAL ACTIVITES OF THE SUBJECT:
Practical credits will be combined with theory in most cases.
There will be a mixture of reading, writing, transcription, ear training and other type of activities
Self-access room practice.

METHODOLOGY:
A combination of theory, ear training and practical exercises combined with phonetic transcriptions.
There will be individual, pair and group work.

ASSESSMENT:
Phonetic transcriptions and ear training exercises done in class. 10%
1 written exam. 90%

It is recommended to use the self-access room for extra ear-training practice.
