1. The grammar of English from a functional and morphological point of view; resources to improve written English for specific academic genres; larger and up-dated vocabulary.
Mètodes docents: All classes in English. Development of research and study skills; reading and writing assignments; discussion of grammar exercises in class; use of audiovisual material and authentic material; guided compositions; lectures on grammatical aspects of the language and guidelines on writing skills. Self-access room activities. Tipus d'exàmens: (1) Class attendance and participation; (2) Four assigned compositions; (3) One listening-writing exam based on Speak Up Audio issues 217, 218, 219, 220, 221 and 222; (4) One practical grammar exam based on Raymond Murphy’s English Grammar in Use (With Answers); (5) One reading-writing exam based on Ronald Carter’s The Penguin Modern Language Reader: Everyday Modern English Texts with Practice Activities; (6) One book report on John Steinbeck’s Cannery Row. To be qualified for this subject, it is compulsory to pass the school observation assignments.
