This training focuses on learning the different aspects of physiotherapy (assessment, diagnosis, treatment design and development) working in English, making use of the relationship between the University School of Sport and Health (affiliated to the University of Girona) and the School of Interactive New Technologies (affiliated to the University of Barcelona) to train cross-disciplinary competencies of academic excellence and integrate the latest technologies in physiotherapy into the curriculum.
It is advisable for physiotherapy students to have a sound training in subjects relating to health sciences. What is more, they will also need to have a good service attitude towards people and an active personality.
Classes will be almost always be in English. English is indispensable these days and all the more so in the world of health care and the technological industry we are working with, in coordination, in this Bachelor's degree, through the Escola de Noves Tecnologies Interactives, a centre affiliated to the University of Barcelona (ENTI-UB), developing multimedia resources for physiotherapy. This Inter-University Bachelor’s Degree in Physiotherapy brings a further dimension to EUSES’ track record of quality, by enabling students to work in a third vehicular language, giving them the effective tool that language is for their professional development, once their studies have finished, both within and without our borders. Daily communal life with English opens new doors for physiotherapy professionals, giving them a distinctive inside the European market. The curriculum provides for the possibility of taking optional subjects in French, to facilitate our students’ inclusion in the labour market, especially in France and Belgium.
Learning objectives
The general objectives are as follows:
- Generating in students the capacity to value the importance of physiotherapy in the context of health.
- Providing the scientific preparation and appropriate competencies for identifying, describing, comparing and treating changes in health that may respond to physiotherapy.
- Acquiring competences in the joint use of methods, procedures, models, techniques and actions that, through the application of physical agents, manual techniques and therapeutic exercises, among others, prevent, cure and restore persons affected by functional deficiencies, limitations or changes in physical function and health resulting from an injury, illness, accident or any other cause.
- Providing the students a basis to develop habits of excellence and quality in their professional work.
- Instilling in students the interest in incorporating the research into the professional practice in a critical, constructive and creative way.
Work opportunities for Physiotherapy graduates are very diverse thanks to the extensive range of the health professionals’ various areas: treatment of pathologies in medical and surgical specialities; illness-prevention and health-promotion activities, as well as research, teaching and management. It allows freelance professional activity and in the public and private sectors too.
The main employment sectors area: mutual insurances companies, mutual accident-insurance companies, general hospitals, specialist hospitals, rehabilitation centres, primary attention, special-education schools, old-people's residences, primary-care centres, social-health centres, hydrothermal centres, clubs and sports centres, physio-aesthetics, research, teaching and so on.
Moreover, the training on offer provided by ENTI-UB – a pioneering centre in offering the first University Bachelor's Degree in Catalonia in Interactive Digital Contents (Video games and Serious Games)– will enable students to develop professionally in the area of technological application within the field of the Physiotherapy, a potentially innovative area, with an extensive range of development in our society, for combining aspects as important as the health care and new technologies.
Students can complete part of their degree programme abroad through the Erasmus programme, which enables them to carry on their studies whilst undertaking an international exchange with academic value in a European university.
They also have access to grants for placements at universities in Spain and on other continents, thanks to bilateral agreements, the SICUE programme and the expansion of the Erasmus+ Programme.
