Brief CV

Ingrid Vilà Giménez is a PhD in Language Sciences from the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (2020, Cum Laude and International Mention). She obtained her BA in Catalan Language and Literature from the Universitat de Girona, MA in Teacher Training from the Universitat de Barcelona, and MA in Theoretical and Applied Linguistics from the Universitat Pompeu Fabra. She is assessed as a tenure-eligible lecturer since 2021 by AQU.

She is currently a Postdoctoral Researcher working at the Dept. of Specific Didactics at the Universitat de Girona (Faculty of Education & Psychology), with the support of a Margarita Salas fellowship (funded by European Union-NextGenerationEU, Ministry of Universities and Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, through a call from Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona).

Since 2020, she is teaching on the BA in Primary School Education and the Dual BA in Early Childhood Education / Primary School Education. Additionally, she has been a Collaborator Teacher at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences) since 2018, supervising MA theses in Learning Difficulties and Language Disorders (research and professional fields), and teaching Applied linguistics for speech therapy in the BA in Speech Therapy (UVic-UCC/UOC). She previously taught Psychology of Language in the BA in Psychology. From 2016 to 2020, she was a Teaching Assistant at the Dept. of Translation and Language Sciences at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra, where she taught at both graduate and postgraduate levels, mainly in the field of linguistics. in Speech Therapy (UVic-UCC/UOC).

Her specific line of research focuses on the multimodal integration of gesture, speech, and prosody, and its significant role in children's language development (specifically, in oral linguistic abilities). Broadly speaking, her research interests lie in the effects of multimodal communication on teaching-learning processes, specifically on the development of children's cognitive and linguistic abilities. Her PhD dissertation, Non-referential beat gestures as a window onto the development of children’s narrative abilities, examined several issues related to the bootstrapping role of non-referential beat gestures —and their concomitant prosodic prominence— in 5- to 6-year-old children’s narrative abilities (Extraordinary Doctorate Award, 2022).

In 2017, she did a research stay at the Dept. of Psychology at the University of Chicago (Illinois, USA), with Prof. Susan Goldin-Meadow (University of Chicago) and Dr. Ece Demir-Lira (University of Iowa). She is currently a research member of the GRECA group (UdG) and of the Prosodic Studies Group (GrEP, UPF). She has published peer-reviewed papers in international journals of Linguistics, Psychology, and Psycholinguistics, and conference proceedings. She has participated in national and international conferences as author and co-author of more than 40 presentations. She has been part of several research projects funded at national and international levels. She has served as a reviewer for different scientific JCR journals and conferences of international prestige (Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, Gesture, Language and Speech, Conference of the Student Organization of Linguistics in Europe, International Association for the Study of Child Language Conference) and has been invited to join the Editorial Board of Multimodality of Communication (section Frontiers in Communication, JCR Journal) as a Review Editor.
