Més informació sobre la sessió i el ponent:
This webinar explores the multimodal resources mobilized by three higher education agencies in the Baltic states in their effort to promote their universities internationally as attractive study places. This talk is set in the context of the marketization of higher education and pays special attention to the role of English and, more broadly, to discourse in connection to university branding. It examines the tension between the national/local and the global scales in the promotion of Baltic higher education and how such a tension is discursively realized.
Josep Soler-Carbonell holds degrees in English Studies (2002) and in General Linguistics (2004) and a PhD in Linguistics and Communication (2010) all from the University of Barcelona. In the last few years he has investigated how, in non-Anglophone contexts, universities and their stakeholders adapt to the growing presence of English in their daily realities. Empirically, his material comes first and foremost from Estonia, a country with which he has established personal and professional ties since 2005.
