R+D project to develop a mobile app for assisting Parkinson's disease patients

Swiss SME + university have put together a Eurostars proposal and PoC for a Parkinson's disease (PD) mobile app for patient management to assist with anomalous motor conditions.

The goals are to expand its virtual care platform capabilities, to add AR, and to use AI to help with symptom prediction. The project is already well defined. The consortium includes a Swiss university, an SME and some Parkinson's disease associations. The goal is to complete the consortium by including at least one more entity from an EU country.

The company is looking for both business and research partners to contribute to the development of the app/platform, especially regarding validation, usability and inter-platform mobile development. The specific area of activity of the partner:

- Software development SME with digital health expertise and UX/UI focus, on mobile devices and possibly on Android devices.

- Research institution focused on the Parkinson disease condition and with digital health expertise.

Currently patients who suffer from PD-related dyskinesia have no specific medical interventions at their disposal to deal with anomalous motor conditions when they occur. However, they can make use of research-validated non-medical interventions with the help of technology: specific stimuli of various nature (auditory, tactile, visual) exist that can ameliorate their condition. Moreover, mobile/IoT devices can also monitor their movements and help them in case, for example, of a fall to call for assistance.

The goals therefore are:

- Before an event, to inform the patient about a potential risk and keep him/her calm with appropriate language.

- During an event, to generate optimized stimuli to counteract the dyskinesia.

- After an event, if that results in harm (like in case of a fall), to automatically call for assistance.
