Oral exams Two oral exams (one per semester, 15% each) that will require students to show their ability to produce spontaneous language based on the activities covered in the block of English for Communication and culture. 30
Competence exams Two exams: one at the end of each semester (25% each). These exams will test learners on all the contents covered in the block of English for Tourism and CAE grammar during the semester as well as their general linguistic competence. 50

Qualificació

Requirements concerning the exams for those students who choose formative or ongoing assessment:

Minimum score for written & oral exams (first & second semester): 50.

Written exams: students who pass the first semester exam will just take the 2nd term exam (including just 2nd term contents) in June. However, those who fail this exam in January will have to take a comprehensive exam in June that will include all the contents of the year. If a student fails the June exam, he / she will go straight to the re-sit in late June.

Oral exams: If a student fails the oral exam of the first semester, passing the oral exam of the 2nd semester will be enough to recover that mark, but the mark of the first
semester will be maintained when it comes to establishing the student’s final mark.

Writing tests: Students who do not show up for the writing tests will have to do these writing tasks on the day of the corresponding competence exam. No tasks will be accepted from home.

Choice of assessment type:
Those students who prefer to be assessed just once a year, in other words, those students who relinquish their right to formative assessment in favour of summative assessment, will just sit a written exam (60% of the grade), and an oral exam in June (40%). In these cases the mimimum score will also be a 50.

Criteris específics de la nota «No Presentat»:
Only NO SHOWS will get an NP.

Observacions

This is a foreign language course of a very different nature. Students have to understand the need to move away from traditional English lessons and to start using English as if they were native speakers. The course requires learners to spend time reading books, articles and to do traditional academic work, but in English.
