Anna M. Romaní Cornet (Barcelona, 1969), has a MSc degree in Biology (University of Barcelona) and PhD in Biology (European Doctorate, University of Barcelona). During the PhD and as a PhD she has done research stays at the University of Wales and Institute of Terrestrial Ecology (Bangor, United Kingdom), at the Limnologische FlussStation des Max-Plank-Instituts für Limnologie (Schlitz, Germany) and at the Department of Limnology, Evolutionary Biology Center (Uppsala University, Sweden). She has been a “Ramón y Cajal” researcher (five year contract as a postdoctoral senior researcher) at the University of Girona, Institute of Aquatic Ecology. At present, she is Associate Professor at the Department of Environmental Sciences and member of the Institute of Aquatic Ecology and the GRECO (Research Group in Continental Aquatic Ecology) at the University of Girona. She has published 111 SCI papers and supervised 8 PhD thesis. Her main field of expertise is the ecology of microbial biofilms, specially their role in organic matter cycling with emphasis on microbial interactions and functioning. She has focused her research on fluvial ecology considering the different benthic compartments (surface/hyporheic sediment, cobble biofilms, decaying plant material) and also performed studies in lagoons, infiltration systems and water distribution systems, and semi-árid ecosystems. She is interested on the link between microbial metabolism and biogeochemical processes and the effects and responses to climate change and anthropic factors (warming, drought, pollution) affecting ecosystem functioning. Research is performed by field experiments and laboratory experimental work (microcosms/mesocosms).
