In 1991 began at the University of Girona the international colloquia on «Problems and Methods of the History of Language» in order to stimulate discussion among experts on theoretical aspects related to the history of languages. Previous colloquia have dealt with issues such History of vocabulary, The linguistic history of Europe in the time of Reformation and Counter-Reformation, The areas of standardisation, History of the linguistic ideas, The space of languages. The conference of 2013 aims to focus on rules, myths and emotions,  three elements fundamental and intrinsically linked to the historical establishment of any language. The 2013 colloquium is titled The construction of languages: myths, rules and emotions. 

The conferences is promoted by the research grup History of Languages, which in recent years has decisively contributed to the singularisation of History of Languages as a linguistic discipline. From a interdisciplinary perspective, we want to incorporate contributions from the fields of literture, social history and other disciplines seemingly remote such as sociology, psychology and philosophy of language.
