Presentation

Observatory for Applied Ethics to Social Intervention was born in 2003 as an answer to ethical issues given in the intervention social area. It was created inside Fundació Campus Arnau d’Escala, the bosses of which are Generalitat de Catalunya (Catalan Government), University of Girona, Institut d’Assistència Sanitària (hospital and psychiatric) and Fundació DRISSA.

The Observatory’s general target is to stimulate a professional and citizen culture abaut the moral values which are involves in social intervention practices. This moral culture is respectful with Human Rights and is understood as a public good.

Observatory’s specific targets are:

   a) To analise cases or ethical problems which affect the community of professionals of the social intervention and  users from an interdisciplinary, pluralistic vision and taking into account the voice of the affected ones.

   b) To stimulate an ethical reflection pointing out the diversity of outlooks in plural societies, discovering misunderstandings and to collaborate in the construction of a civic and universalistic moral.

   c) To subject deliberations and recommendations to citizenship for the knowledge of citizens and because they could think about it in work groups, research seminars, courses, books, etc.

   d) To be a center of resources and a reference point and of stimulus of analysis, deliberations and citizenship participation in applied ethics to social intervention. All these activities will be done by collaborations with people and entities which have similar objectives.
