Educational objectives

Within the context of information technologies, the Masters in Computer Science covers a set of disciplines related with computer programming, or, in other words, software. Among these disciplines are: algorithmics, programming, databases, software engineering, computer vision and virtual reality. This masters is aimed at preparing highly qualified professionals and providing them with the knowledge and values needed to develop tasks of professional responsibility in the computer field as both engineers and researchers. The masters in Computer Science provides guaranteed knowledge equivalent to that of computer engineering and can lead to more cross-disciplinary training or a specialisation in: visualisation, virtual reality and graphical interaction; algorithmics and programming, and information systems.

Curriculum structure

The Masters in Computer Science is organised into four semesters with 30 ECTS credits in each one. The first semester includes a cross-disciplinary module (15 ECTS credits) of instrumental training for professional, academic or research practice. An initial module (15 ECTS credits) of advanced basic training is also offered during the first semester. The second semester (30 ECTS credits) includes a second module of advanced basic training and a first module of specialised training in one of the orientations offered. The third semester consists of only one module (30 ECTS credits) of specialisation (students can opt for specialised or cross-curricular training, choosing subjects from the various specialisations). Finally, the fourth semester is dedicated to writing the masters thesis (30 ECTS), with a professional or a research orientation, depending on the interests of the individual students.

Specialisations:
  • Visualisation, virtual reality and graphical interaction
  • Algorithmics and programming
  • Information systems
The masters includes the possibility of completing the masters thesis in the laboratories of the UdG or of the UPC, regardless of the university in which the student has registered, as well as in European universities through Erasmus-Socrates agreements and in American universities.

Admission profile, previous education requirements and admission and selection criteria

Priority will be given to students who have degrees of four or more years closely related to studies in Computer Science, in order that they begin the third semester (S3) right away and complete the masters with 60 ECTS credits.

It is also anticipated that students who have completed at least three years of study in a degree programme which is closely related to computer science can continue their studies in the masters programme. . Assessments will be made of the academic records of students of Mathematics, Statistics, Industrial Engineering and other branches of engineering. The programme will evaluate candidates individually, based on their academic records and taking into consideration other criteria such as exams, interviews, project proposals and letters of recommendation, which might also be part of the admissions process.
