Educational objectives

  • To develop abilities to evaluate psychological processes of both normal and atypical human development and learning from the first months of life until old age, as well as abilities to detect, prevent and intervene in support of development and learning in people with disabilities and those at risk of social exclusion.
  • To develop skills to collect, transcribe and analyse data and generate new knowledge about learning using new technologies in new educational contexts.
  • To develop the ability to evaluate and intervene in psycho-educational processes and practices, so as to promote and improve the overall psychological development of people of all ages, the psycho-educational procedures employed and the functioning of educational groups and institutions.
  • To develop the ability to collect and transcribe, analyse and evaluate data and generate new knowledge related to the interaction and discourse used in school and family situations to promote learning processes, as well as the ability to collect data on psychological processes related with learning to communicate and with oral, written, sign and aided language, in family and school contexts and in monolingual and multilingual situations, and to analyse that data and intervene in and do research on those processes.
  • To develop the ability to analyse and encourage thought and learning processes through the use of different types of language.

Curriculum structure

The dual training focus, professional and academic or research, of this masters will be developed at three complementary levels: compulsory modules, optional modules and a practicum. To obtain the qualification, students must complete 95 credits from the modules of participating universities, distributed as follows:
  • 15 credits in the compulsory module specific to the MIPE
  • 20 credits in the practicum module specific to the MIPE and in one of the two tracks, professional or research
  • 40 credits in the four optional modules specific to the MIPE
  • 20 credits in modules of the official postgraduate programmes of the participating universities.

Admission profile, previous education requirements and admission and selection criteria

Consideration will be given to the academic records of students with training or previous academic or professional experience in psychology and education, with degrees or their equivalent in Psychology, Educational Psychology, Education, Education Sciences, Teacher Training, Linguistics, Social and Cultural Anthropology, Audiovisual Communication and Humanities or in other specialisations (after the academic records of candidates are assessed by the MIPE coordinating committee).

The MIPE coordinating committee, which is responsible for the student admissions process, will analyse and assess the candidates’ academic records to identify those students who have not completed the specific training required for admission and may require, to assure they get the most out of the programme, as many as 30 complementary levelling credits in addition to those required for the degree. In addition to having one of the previously mentioned degrees, the following criteria will be prioritised: previous knowledge in psychology, education and educational psychology, knowledge of foreign languages, basic knowledge of information and communication technologies and the academic record.

Pre-registration and registration

Pre-registration must be completed online.

First pre-registration period: will begin on 2 April and will run until 1 July 2007

Admission decisions: between 16 and 18 July 2007

If places are still available, a new pre-registration period will be open from 20 July until 19 September 2007.

Admission to the Doctoral programme

Students can apply for admission to the doctoral course of any Official Postgraduate Programme (POP, Programes Oficials de Postgrau) at the University of Girona provided they have completed a minimum of 60 ECTS credits in a POP programme or have an official master’s degree and have completed a minimum of 300 ECTS credits in their undergraduate and postgraduate studies at a university or other centre of higher education. The applications will be reviewed by the Doctoral Council of each programme.
