Educational objectives
The general aim of the masters is to provide training about women and gender that is both scientifically rigorous and applicable to problems of social interest. The “Women, jobs and public policies” professional track aims to respond to a clear demand in society for people who can work as advocates of equality. The “Theory, criticism and culture. Gender perspectives” track aims to develop better understanding of the conceptual networks and the theoretical discourses that have contributed to recent theoretical, academic and political debates about gender issues.

Curriculum structure
First year
During the first year students are obligated to complete the three common modules and one specific module from the chosen track.
Common compulsory modules
- Module 1: Feminist epistemologies and history of women
- Module 2: Gender and sociocultural dynamics
- Module 3: Gender violence and countervailing powers
Research specific module
- Module 4: Discourse, practice and discipline knowledge
Professional specific module
- Module 5: Work and well-being: where are the women?
Second year
Students complete the modules corresponding to the specialisation chosen during the first year:
- Theory, criticism and culture. Gender perspectives. Modules 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10
- Women, jobs and public policies. Modules 11, 12, 13 and 14
In the “Theory, criticism and culture. Gender perspectives” track, students must complete two (30 credits) of the four optional modules and one compulsory module (15 credits), all from this specialisation. In addition, they are obligated to write final research papers or complete final research projects (15 credits) that meet the requirements described below.
In the “Women, jobs and public policies” track, students must complete two compulsory modules (30 credits) and, of the two remaining modules, one optional module (15 credits), which would be module 13 in the face-to-face mode and module 14 in the on-line mode. Likewise, they will be required to complete work consisting of the design and assessment of plans, programmes and projects dedicated to equality from a gender perspective.
In the final work or project students must demonstrate their ability to do theoretical or practical research using the methodological tools specific to gender studies, carrying out the research with rigour and making an original contribution.
