Access to university master’s programmes 2013-2014

What do I need to enter a master’s programme?

Master’s programmes are open to applicants who have:

  • an official university bachelor’s degree.
  • a pre-EHEA undergraduate degree or one in engineering or architecture, or a three-year degree or one in technical engineering or architectural technology, subject to the admission conditions established by the UdG for each individual case.
  • a foreign university degree, provided that they have had their degrees officially recognised and that those degrees allow them to enter master’s programmes. Official recognition of the foreign degree is not required if the studies completed provide a level of training equivalent to a Spanish bachelor’s degree and qualify the holders to begin graduate studies in the country where they were issued. Admission in this way does not imply any changes to the academic and professional qualifications corresponding to the original degree, nor its recognition for any purpose other than entering a master’s programme.

At the proposal of the Master’s Committee, and in consideration of the compatibility between the competencies and knowledge gained from completed studies and those of the programme applied to, the UdG may recognise some credits of individuals applying to enter the master’s programme if they have an official four- or five-year university degree.

Likewise, considering that same compatibility, the UdG may require the holders of official university diplomas (three years) or degrees in technical engineering or architectural technology to complete additional training.

How, when and where can I pre-register and register?
1. For UdG master’s and inter-university master’s coordinated by the UdG

Pre-registration must be completed through the online pre-registration Enllaç a un altre portal UdG form. Instructions for completing the pre-registration form are available in the Step by step Document PDF document.

Pre-registration and registration periods:

  • First period. Pre-registration from 15 February to 28 June 2013. Admission decisions announced on 12 July 2013. Registration from 18 to 26 July 2013.
  • Second period. If places are still available, a new pre-registration period will open from 19 July to 13 September 2013. Admission decisions announced on 20 September 2013. Registration from 25 September to 4 October 2013. (Registration for the master’s programme in Compulsory Secondary Education, Upper Secondary Education, Vocational Training and Language Teaching will be held from 30 September to 1 October 2013.)
  • Open registration. When the second pre-registration period has ended and admission decisions have been made, if there are still vacancies, it will be possible to register during the open registration period, which ends 15 days after classes start. Students who register during this period cannot cancel their registration.
  • Special registration period. A special registration period will be held from 3 to 7 February 2014 for new students who were accepted but could not register during the other registration periods. In this period students may only register for second semester subjects.
  • Registrations may be cancelled until 31 October 2013.

If the master’s programme is not offered during the 2013-2014 academic year, students may request a refund of the registration fee or admission to another similar programme offered at the UdG.

Planning for tracks

A minimum number of students is required to plan for tracks, therefore students must indicate their programme choice when they pre-register. According to criteria set by the University, if there is not enough demand for a particular track, that track will not be offered and students will asked to choose another track in the same master’s programme.

Further information is available at www.udg.edu/masters.

The following links lead to information, when available, about the days, times and places for tutorials and registration from the academic secretaries in the different faculties and schools:

When it becomes available, you can download the registration form from the page with links to all forms.

2. Interuniversity master’s not coordinated by the UdG

Students of interuniversity master’s not coordinated by the UdG must complete pre-registration and registration procedures at the coordinating university and will be subject to the terms and conditions established there.

What supporting documents do I need?

The documents required to complete the pre-registration form can be found in the Step by step Document PDF document.

If any of the documents submitted by international students are not written in either Catalan or Spanish, they must be translated by one of the following authorities:

However, because the English language is considered to be the lingua franca of the international university community, documents issued in English will also be accepted, provided that the validity of the documents can be guaranteed in the established conditions.

All documents (including translations) must be authenticated by the corresponding authorities, unless they have been issued in one of the member countries of the EU Enllaç extern or a signatory of the Agreement on the European Economic Area Enllaç extern; in these cases no authentication is necessary.

For other countries:

  • Countries that have signed the Hague Convention Enllaç extern. The documents must include the apostille of the Hague issued by the proper authorities in those countries.
  • Countries that have signed the Andrés Bello Convention Enllaç extern. When the country is also a signatory of the Hague Convention, the simpler procedure established for the latter can be followed. If the country in question has only signed the Andrés Bello Convention, the documents must be authenticated through diplomatic channels, for which they must be submitted to the following authorities:
    1. The Ministry of Education of the country of origin, for degrees and certificates of study.
    2. A diplomatic office (embassy or consulate) of Spain in that country.
    3. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country where the documents were issued.
  • Other countries. Documents must be authenticated through diplomatic channels, for which they must be submitted to the following authorities:
    1. The Ministry of Education of the country of origin for degrees and certificates of study, and the corresponding ministry for birth and nationality certificates.
    2. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country where the documents were issued.
    3. A diplomatic office (embassy or consulate) of Spain in that country.

If the documents have been issued by diplomatic or consular authorities of other countries in Spain, they must also be authenticated by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
