Descripció:
Anglès Avançat 1 és la primera de les dues assignatures (B2.1 + B2.2) de nivell B2 segons el marc europeu comú de referència per a les llengües (MECR). Mitjançant l'aprenentatge basat en tasques, aquest curs té com a objectiu fer una introducció al llenguatge específic del sector turístic i donar eines a l’alumne per millorar les seves habilitats comunicatives, tan necessàries en aquest sector.

Continguts

1. TRANSPORT AND TRAVEL SERVICES. Speaking, listening, reading and writing activities based on the theme of transport and travel to, from and around tourist destinations. Students explore on-line transport websites in real time to gain knowledge of and reflect upon the diversity available for today's traveller, worker and entrepreneur.

2. HOTEL & ACCOMMODATION SERVICES. Speaking, listening, reading and writing activities based on the theme of accommodation services from the perspectives of client, worker and entrepreneur. Students explore on-line websites to gain knowledge of and reflect upon the diversity available for today's traveller, worker and entrepreneur.

3. GASTRONOMY & FOOD SERVICES. Speaking, listening, reading and writing activities based on the theme of gastronomy. Students explore local and international cuisine and food establishments while considering entrepreneurship and the roles of client, worker and entrepreneur.

4. CREATING HOLIDAYS. Speaking, listening, reading and writing activities based on the theme of holiday destinations in today's world of high technology. Students explore and create package holidays based on market segments and trends while considering the roles of client, worker and entrepreneur.

5. CUSTOMER SERVICE. Speaking, listening, reading and writing activities based on the theme of customer service. Students explore local and international business customs through video and text while considering tourism-specific service industry relationships and professionalism at the workplace.

6. VOLUNTOURISM.Speaking, listening, reading and writing activities based on the theme of voluntourism. Students explore positive and negative aspects of this area in order to gain knowledge, awareness and debating skills regarding this worldwide tourism trend.

Avaluació i qualificació

In-class Task-based learning Activities. Students are expected to actively participate in all class sessions (60 hours) doing a variety of activities either individually, in pairs,in small groups or with the entire class as a whole. 10 No
Out of Class Reading Activities Throughout the semester students will be required to read articles from their course textbook and workbook LIFE (Units 1-6)as well to do programmed write-ups for each article. Students will also be assigned tourism-specific articles from the internet as preparation for reading tests. 3
Out of class Writing Activities This course requires 2 types of out-of-classroom writing activities: (1) 6 original texts written in English as established in the syllabus and which correspond to the Tourism Modules taught in the course. Additionally, students must synthesize in writing the 12 readings from their coursebook LIFE (Units 1-6) as established in the Reading into Writing criteria in the Moodle. 4
Out of class Listening Activities Students are expected to do 30 minutes of weekly listening activities outside the classroom using their workbook or Tourism Module documents on Moodle, depending on the week(6 hours). In addition, students are expected to do an additional 2 hours of weekly audio or audio visual homework of their choice in English VO and which they will keep a log of (includes: watching series, films, YouTube or documentaries, listening to music) for a total of 30 hours during the semester.

Oral Presentations Students do 3 individual oral presentations (two which are 3-5 minutes in length, the third being a 20-minute exchange with the instructor). Dates for presentations are stated on the syllabus. 20
Listening Tests Students will take 3 listening comprehension tests throughout the semester in order to evaluate their receptive skills. These skills can be tested through activities requiring matching, gap-fill, multiple-choice, etc. Test dates are stated on the syllabus. 20
Writing Tests Students will take 3 writing tests during the semester. Both short and longer writing tasks will be evaluated based on the criteria for the B2.1 level. Test dates are stated on the syllabus. 20
Reading Tests Students will take 3 reading comprehension tests throughout the semester in order to evaluate their skills in this area. These reading activities will require matching, multiple choice, synthesizing of ideas, True/False, decision-making, etc. Tests dates are stated on the syllabus. 20

Qualificació

Students receive their course mark through a system of Continuous Evaluation which assigns the following weight to each of the required activities:

3 Writing Tests: 20%
3 Reading Tests: 20%
3 Listening Tests: 20%
3 Oral Presentations: 20%
In-class Participation: 10%*
Out-of-class Participation: 10%*

*Students are expected to attend all 60 hours of class and turn in all homework activities.

STUDENTS MUST ACHIEVE A MINIMUM OF 5/10 IN ALL AREAS AND AN OVERALL MINIMUM MARK OF 50% OUT OF 100% TO PASS THE COURSE.

Criteris específics de la nota «No Presentat»:
Students who have done neither Continuous Evaluation nor the single-sesssion evaluation will receive the mark "No presentat".


Avaluació única:
Exceptionally and within the UdG's established deadline, students who cannot attend class can ask for a single-session exam to demonstrate their English competencies at this level. The single-session 4-hour exam will evaluate the student's level of competence in Writing, Reading, Listening and Speaking. Students must achieve a minimum of 5/10 overall and a minimum of 5/10 in each of the areas.

Requisits mínims per aprovar:
Per considerar superada l’assignatura, caldrà obtenir una qualificació mínima de 5.0

Tutoria

Students may request tutorials at any time during the course. These requests should be made through the instructor's official UdG email address. In addition, the instructor will invite students to tutorials during the course to discuss thier progress.

Observacions

Per cursar aquesta assignatura l'alumne hauria haver consolidat prèviament el nivell B1 d'anglès. S'espera assistència amb regularitat (100%) donat que les classes són participatives i que el temari s’avança diàriament.

Students should have a solid B1 level of English to register for this course. Regular class attendance (100%) is expected as classes involve active participation and subject matter is cumulative.

Modificació del disseny

Modificació de les activitats:
Durant les hores de classe previstes, a través de Blackboard i un grup WhatsApp, es realitzaran les classes de manera virtual amb el suport de documents penjats al Moodle i enviats via WhatsApp grup chat. Es mantindrà el calendari de les activitats establertes i programades (syllabus).

Modificació de l'avaluació:
Les activitats d’avaluació previstes en el disseny de l’assignatura es mantenen en el ben entès que totes es realitzaran mitjançant vies no presencials.

A través del correu electrònic del instructor de l'assignatura, es podrá concertar tutories virtuals.

Comunicació
Abans de l'hora de classe, es penjarà al Moodle les activitats de la setmana per poder seguir l'assignatura. Aquestes activitats seran els mateixos establerts en els calendari programat (syllabus). A l'hora d'iniciar classe, s'enviarà la primera activitat via WhatsApp i els alumnes respondran per constatar la seva presència a la classe virtual (assistència).
