Brief CV

Prof. Sílvia Osuna (b. 1983, Castelló d’Empúries) is currently a ICREA researcher at the Institute of Computational Chemistry and Catalysis (IQCC) at the University of Girona. Prof. Osuna obtained her PhD with academic honours in 2010 at the University of Girona (Spain) under the supervision of Prof. Miquel Solà and Prof. Marcel Swart. She received the PhD thesis award for the best thesis defended in 2010 at the Chemistry department of the University of Girona. Upon graduation, she moved to the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA, USA) for a two-year postdoctoral position with the Marie Curie International Outgoing Fellowship (IOF) at the group of Prof. K. N. Houk. In 2013, she was awarded the Juan de la Cierva postdoctoral position, and in 2015 the highly competitive Ramón y Cajal position, and then she obtained an ICREA Research position. OsunaLab group is funded by the European Research Council (ERC) -Consolidator Grant project FASTEN (ERC-2022-CoG-101088032, PI: Osuna), Proof of Concept project GREENZYME and KITZYME (ERC-2022-PoC2-101112805, ERC-2023-PoC-101158166PI: Osuna), MINECO project COCOZYME (PID2021-129034NB-100, PI: Osuna) and Prueba de Concepto project EVOCAT (PDC2022-133950-100, PI: Osuna). Altogether, she manage a total of ca. 2.6 M€ from European and National funding agencies for developing her research.

Dr. Osuna has a total of 102 research publications, and 4 book chapters. Her publications accumulate more than 4116 citations (Scopus, April 2024), providing an H index of 39. Two of her publications were qualified as VIP paper, another one featured in Computational Chemistry Highlights, and one feature article published in 2017 was one of the most downloaded papers of 2017: Physical and Environmental Chemistry

The publications listed comprise high impact-factor journals: one Nature, one Nature Catal., one Nature Chem. Biol., three Nature Commun., one Proc. Nat. Acad. Sci. USA, seven Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., fifteen J. Am. Chem. Soc., among many others. She has published one review paper in Phys. Chem. Chem. Phys., two in Chem. Commun., one in Chem. Soc. Rev., one in Acc. Chem. Res., and one in WIRES Comput Mol Sci. The researcher has also acted as Guest Editor (co-edited with Prof. Marcel Swart) for Current Organic Chemistry for the Hot-Topic issue “Nanoreactors and Molecular Prisons” published in September 2013. She has also published 5 popular science papers to promote communication between the scientific community and the general public.

She has been awarded many prestigious awards: National Research Award ‘María Teresa Toral’ (2023), Emerging Scientific Talent award of Societat Catalana de Química (2023), EuChemS Lecture award 2022, Marcial Moreno award by the Catalan division of the Royal Spanish Society of Chemistry RSEQ-Cat (2021), Catalan National Research Award – Young Talent 2019 from Fundació Catalana de Recerca i Innovació (FCRi), Young Investigator Award by the company Lilly and Royal Spanish Society of Chemistry RSEQ (2019), the Young Investigator Award of EuCheMS Organic Division (2017), the Young Researcher award by the Royal Spanish Society of Chemistry (RSEQ 2016), and the Research award by the Fundación Princesa de Girona (FPdGi 2016- Science category; https://vimeo.com/173331881).
