Master in Water Resources Science and Technology

Internships

The master includes some compulsory practicals worth 12 ECTS during the second semester in one of the companies, entities, or par excellence research groups in the water sector that collaborate with the Master in Water Resources Science and Technology. Although they are two different subjects, the cource coordinator recommends students, companies and entities to combine the work placements with the TFM, (15 ECTS) to be able to enjoy a longer educational period.

Work placements are educational activities completed by students in any public or private, national or foreign institution, with the aim of applying and adding to the learning acquired in the master’s degree and allowing students to experience the reality in the professional field in which they will work and to develop skills that may facilitate their incorporation into the job market.

The 12 ECTS correspond to 265 hours of on-site practicals in the company, entity or research group and 35 hours of tutorials (with the company tutor and the academic tutor, who is usually the coordinator of the master) and the writing of a report.

The practicals are paid with conditions negotiated individually with each company, entity or research group, except where the student's grant does not allow for this, or where the student voluntarily renounces being paid in the interest of carrying out the work placement in an entity that cannot pay them.

The selection procedure for the entities that offer internships and candidates starts in the first semester. The coordinator compiles the offers and applications of those who are interested, and the entity itself selects a candidate once they have evaluated the student's CV and conducted the corresponding interview. Once an agreement has been made, a pre-assignment is entered on the UdG’s work placement platform to generate the corresponding agreement that must be signed by the company, the student and the Faculty of Science.

The company, entity or research group tutor where the placement has taken place is responsible for 50% of the work placement evaluation, considering both professional and skills acquisition aspects, and the academic tutor of the UdG is responsible for the other 50%, evaluating the content and the format of the report. The regulations in force can be consulted in the Faculty of Science Regulations for external academic placements of master’s degree studies, approved by Governing Commission 3/2018 of the Faculty of Science of the UdG on 15/03/2018.
