Master in Industrial Engineering

Learning objectives

The master's degree entitles graduates to work as industrial engineers.

The general objective of the course is to train of holders of an engineering degree at a master's level, providing the skills typical of this profession and enabling them to access professional activities whilst allowing those looking to write a doctoral thesis to perform research. The master's degree is regulated by Order CIN/311/2009 and has been proposed based on the objectives set out below:

  • Suitable knowledge of the scientific and technological aspects of: mathematics, analytical and numeric methods in engineering, electrical engineering, energy engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, continuum mechanics, industrial electronics, automation, manufacture, materials, quantitative methods of management, industrial computer science, urban planning, infrastructures, etc.
  • Projecting, calculating and designing products, processes, facilities and plants.
  • Directing, planning and supervising multidisciplinary teams.
  • Carrying out research, development and innovation in products, processes and methods.
  • Carrying out strategic planning and applying it to constructive systems as well as production, quality and environmental management.
  • Managing projects, facilities, plants, companies and technology centres from a technical and economic perspective.
  • Exercising general management, technical management and R&D&I project management functions at technology plants, companies and centres.
  • Applying the knowledge acquired and solving problems in new or unknown environments in more extensive and multidisciplinary contexts.
  • Being capable of integrating knowledge and facing the complexity of formulating judgements based on information that is incomplete or limited, but includes reflections on the social and ethical responsibilities linked to the application of knowledge and judgements.
  • Knowing how to communicate conclusions —and the knowledge and reasons supporting them— to specialised and non specialised audiences in a clear, unambiguous way.
  • Possessing the learning skills allow students to continue studying in a self-directed or autonomous way.
  • Having the knowledge, understanding and ability to apply the legislation applicable to industrial engineers.
