Institute of Computer Vision and Robotics Research

Presentation

The University of Girona’s Institute of Computer Vision and Robotics Research (ViCOROB) was created in 2014. Currently accounting for 10% of the productivity of the Teaching and Research Staff (PDI) of the UdG, this is a benchmark institute in Catalonia in the areas of: Medical Image Analysis, Multimedia Image Analysis, 3D Perception in industrial environments, Underwater vision, Underwater robotics and Artificial intelligence.

The Institute is made up of two research groups: ViCOROB and ARLAB . Both have had the "TECNIO" quality label in knowledge transfer for some time, awarded by the Government of Catalonia.

The work of ViCOROB is supported by four axes:

  1. Quality research (as shown by the publications, international collaborations and projects achieved)
  2. Transfer of professional knowledge (as shown by the contracts and projects with companies and the technology-based companies created by and/or with participation from researchers at the Institute)
  3. Internationally recognised education – talent and employability (as indicated by the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master in Medical Imaging and Applications (MAIA) and participation in the Doctoral Programme in Technology with its quality award and high employment rate (100% of those with doctorates from the Institute are working in the business/academic world)
  4. Dissemination, communication and impact in society (as shown by projects “First Lego League”, “Udigital.edu”, and “R2B2” workshops for children and young people and high participation in social networks as the backbone of communication with the general public)
