The lines of research within the ILCC are:

• History of language and normative language
• Contemporary literature: literary theory and comparative literature and literary heritage
• Humanistic literature
• Medieval literature: culture and literature of the Late Middle Ages
• Modern literature: Catalan literature of the modern era and Spanish literature of the Golden Age

All lines focus on the written production in any language in Catalan-speaking territories. The research groups and investigators who form part of the ILCC work and usually collaborate in research in similar cultural fields to those typical of the Institute.
