The two main areas of research of the BCDS group  are the control and management of broadband networks and distributed systems. The group has directed several R&D projects in these areas, funded at national and international level, which Internet service providers (ISPs) and healthcare centres have participated in. The group's research has translated into numerous publications in journals, conferences and international symposia.

The group's main activity consists of the study and development of new methods of process supervision and monitoring. eXiT focuses on the efficient exploitation of historical process data through data mining and knowledge discovery techniques.

GILab's research consists of the application of techniques and powerful Monte Carlo and Theory of Information concepts to graphic computer science and scientific visualisation. GILab responds to the demands of the industry sector in areas such as computer games and medicine.
