Institute of Aquatic Ecology

Presentation

The Institute of Aquatic Ecology (IEA) is a university research institute created in 1987 and dedicated to the ecological study of inland-water (rivers, reservoirs, marshes, etc.)and marine ecosystems. It currently consists of three sections (limnology, microbiology and marine biology), corresponding tothree research groups . It brings together more than 30 researchers with expertise in aquatic ecology (including studies on bacteria, algae, macro-invertebrates and fish), which facilitates multidisciplinary research.

A large part of the IEA belongs to EcoAqua (research group recognised and funded by the Government of Catalonia: 2014 SGR 484 and 2017 SGR 548). The members of the Marine Biology section belong to MedRecover (research group recognised and funded by the Government of Catalonia: 2021 SGR 01073).
