Animal Biology Research Group

Ornithology

Bird populations and communities are used as indicators of changes in ecosystems in the lines of research looking at'forest fires and biological invasions, and in work on the impacts of agricultural activity. Moreover, our research in ornithology also aims to increase our knowledge of theEurasian blackcap, endangered raptors, and sea birds in their interaction with fishing. The research conducted has helped us to understand the biological requirements of these species, the factors that threaten them and to propose strategies for their conservation. At the same time, our group has participated in the design and execution of bird monitoring projects, such as the SOCC and the Atlas of nesting and wintering birds of Catalonia, which are used to generate indicators of the state of biodiversity in Europe.
