The Archaeology, Ancient History and Prehistory Research Group is made up of members of the Institute of Historical Research who are involved in teaching and research in the field of prehistory, the ancient world and archaeology. The work of the group focuses on two broad areas, the first regarding knowledge of the ancient world in the region of Girona, where at present a research project is underway into the Romanisation of the territories of the old Gerunda, with excavations in Sant Julià de Ramis, Sarrià de Ter and El Collet de Sant Antoni, and another about the prehistoric excavations in Serinyà. In parallel, its members also work on archaeological research in Tarragona and Italy, and on a study of the prehistoric mural paintings of the Sahara.
The interests of the Group of Research in Archaeology, Ancient History and Prehistory have always had a double focus: on the one hand, research, and on the other the education of UdG students, with their active participation in the research. At the same time, one of the main motivations of the research group is the dissemination of knowledge, which is why it organises seminars and conferences, edits the Studies on the rural world in the Roman period, collection and publishes the results of its digs - such as the monographic series on the Sant Julià de Ramis site - and also takes part in exhibitions.
