Faculty of Tourism

Welcome

Welcome to the Faculty of Tourism at the University of Girona.

We are a Faculty that is open to the world, based on teaching innovation, research and knowledge transfer. We live in a context of global change, new challenges and new opportunities and because of that, we want to make the Faculty a space that is ready for a radically new world.

Although we are a relatively new university centre, the origins of the Faculty date back to 1989 with the creation of the Official School of Tourism of the Generalitat regional government of Catalonia. In 2007 the Faculty of Tourism at the University was created, with the incorporation of the Advertising and Public Relations courses. The Faculty offers courses for the Bachelor's degree in Tourism, the Bachelor's degree in Advertising and Public Relations, the Dual Bachelor's degree in Advertising, Public Relations and Tourism, the Dual Bachelor's degree in Tourism and Geography, Territory and Environment, the Master in Tourism Management and Planning and the Master in Cultural Tourism and European Master in Tourism Management (Erasmus Mundus) . The Faculty also collaborates in the Inter-University Doctoral Degree in Tourism, which is delivered with the University of the Balearic Islands.

Research is carried out in the Institute of Tourism Research (INSETUR), one of the most important tourism research centres in the country. We have developed research projects both at a national level (Costa Brava, Barcelona, Terres de Lleida, Tarragona...) and at an international level (Peru, Brazil, Azerbaijan, Tunisia, Cuba...). The Faculty also takes part in the University of Girona Tourism Campus, which coordinates research and teaching in tourism at the University of Girona and which involves almost 100 researchers.

From the beginning, we have looked to create close ties with universities all over the world. This is why the Faculty was distinguished with the UdG-Mercuri prize to the faculty with greatest international student mobility. The Faculty has signed agreements with more than twenty universities in the Socrates - Erasmus programme, but also in other international programmes. In our master's degree courses, the majority of students are international.

We aspire to teach students to be critical, creative and have the capacity to adapt to a world undergoing transformation, with international vision and with a clear orientation to the professional market.

Dr Joaquim Majó Fernández, Dean of the Faculty
