The curriculum opts for an interdisciplinary approach and has been designed on basis that educationalists need to be people with a solid cultural education and capable of integrating expertise relating not just to their discipline but also to other social and cultural disciplines (anthropology, sociology, economics, history, law, etc.)
Pedagogical studies have developed structures relating to the democratic participation of students and teachers as quality features specific to the degree. The objective is to foster critical thinking, dialogue and direct participation within these studies in order to foster the course’s quality and the quality of the pedagogy students trained at the University of Girona.

- Designing, applying and assessing training programmes with methods adapted to the various economic, social, cultural and personal situations.

- Design, apply and assess techniques and strategies of mediation, consultation and promotion in the community, as well as in organisations, institutions and services.
- Design plans of lifelong learning and teacher training appropriate to new educational situations and needs.
Pedagogical studies at the University of Girona have been working for years in critical, radical and quality pedagogy. The curriculum taught since 2010 has been based on this perspective.

The bachelor's degree in Pedagogy has been designed to facilitate the entry of students into a continuously developing job market.
Pedagogy has developed within public and private organisations and services, as well as in distance-learning and in-class environments aimed at people of all ages.
The places where pedagogues tend to work can be divided into four areas:
- Students: schools, institutes (once the Master in Teacher Training for Compulsory Secondary Education, Upper Secondary Education, Vocational Training and Foreign Language Teaching has been completed), adult schools and resource centres, among other things.
- Society: civic centres, sports centres, prisons, recreation companies and services, legal services, social services, health centres and services and such centres and services.
- Labour and careers service: continuous training in companies and institutions, career orientation, employment skills training.
- Culture and communications: museums, media, publishing companies and other companies, cultural services and institutions.
University master’s degrees
The UdG offers an extensive master’s-degree programme. Master's degree courses offer advanced, specialised or multidisciplinary training, aimed at providing students with an academic or professional specialism or an introduction to research. These are official courses that enable students to move on to study for a doctoral degree.
Doctorate degree programmes
The doctoral studies are aimed at providing students with advanced training in research techniques and include the preparation and presentation of a doctoral thesis, consisting of original research work. To join a doctoral programme you need to have a minimum of between 60 and 120 ECTS credits at official university master's degree level or equivalent.

The academic calendar marks the beginning and end of classes, non-teaching days, holidays, exam periods, and so on. The administrative calendar marks the periods to make the different formalities administrative.
The practicum is a cornerstone in the training of pedagogy students as it enables them to gain first-hand knowledge of the profession and develop its requisite competencies, skills and attitudes.
It is a subject worth 30 credits that is given in the second semester of the 3rd year of the Bachelor's degree in Pedagogy, so that students will have acquired an important body of theory that enables them to make the most of their practicals.
The practicum for the Bachelor's degree in Pedagogy has been designed to achieve the following goals:
- To bring students over to the professional reality so that, on the basis of their in life at a specific centre or institution, they can take on the complexity of educational work.
- To establish links between the knowledge acquired within the university setting and the knowledge they will steadily acquire in the professional sphere, for the purposes of preparing a richer, more functional, more complex and more critical knowledge, built up from a reflection on and from their work and its practice.
- To create processes for observing and analysing the educational reality which offer the possibility of taking reasoned decisions.
- Acquire and apply professional pedagogical skills within a specific field.
- Foster job opportunities in educational centres or institutions for students.
The bachelor's degree for Pedagogy thesis is a compulsory module, worth 18 ECTS credits, which is carried out in the second semester of the fourth year. It is specifically oriented to assess the attainment of the course’s objectives and the professional and transferable skills imparted by the degree.
It entails the preparation of a monograph, study, project, dissertation or work by the student. It may be geared towards research (on a theoretical or historical topic or focused on a specific practice, experience or innovation) or towards a profession (preparing an educational project, material or resources for teaching-learning project, assessing socio-educational projects, programmes or plans or educational systems, or a report on the application of a project, resources or an educational innovation). Students will submit their thesis and defend it at a viva before an examination committee.
Students will be advised by a tutor both individually and as part of a group.
Students can complete part of their degree programme abroad through the Erasmus programme, which enables them to carry on their studies whilst undertaking an international exchange with academic value in a European university.
They also have access to grants for placements at universities in Spain and on other continents, thanks to bilateral agreements, the SICUE programme and the expansion of the Erasmus+ Programme.
