It's useful to know

Studying the double degree of Political and Administrative Science / Law gives you access to extensive and interdisciplinary training. Apart from conferring academic distinction, which will open the door to a wide range of professional areas, the double degree is not simply a combination of two curricula; it is encompassed within an overall framework in which Political Science and Law work together, each enriching the other in a shared area of knowledge and intellectual competence.

In the field of Political and Administrative Science, the public world is analysed from a broad perspective through subjects which, apart from training in political science, incorporate perspectives on public administration, sociology, the economy and social research methods. The study of the legal aspects, on the one hand, will provide extensive knowledge on the regulatory tools that make up the statutory reality (Public Law), both internally and internationally. On the other hand, they incorporate all the areas of Private Law, in other words, the regulations that regulate relationships between individuals.

It is essential that society has professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to understand and be able to impact the public sphere and legal regulations in order to allow fully democratic coexistence.

Skills acquired

With this double degree you will acquire knowledge, skills and essential competences in the professional world, that will allow you to analyse legal situations and to design strategies to solve them, to understand and critically evaluate the legal information of the different sectors of the jurisdiction, to reason and to argue legally, and to develop and to argue a legal discourse in public. You will also be able, thanks to training in political and administrative science, to plan, implant, evaluate and analyse public policies; understand administrative planning and management; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; design and follow up diagnoses, needs studies, strategic plans and performance programmes for the implementation of public policies; understand the legal framework of activity that public administrations carry out, etc.

Careers

The Double Degree in Law and Political and Administrative Science combines the political science and legal dimensions necessary to train jurists who at the same time are specialists in analysis, management and innovation both in the public and private sphere. Thanks to the education offered, you will acquire multidisciplinary knowledge that will enable you to adapt to a multitude of work typologies, including new professional demands.

Specifically, as a jurist you will be able to work professionally as a lawyer, notary or registrar. You will also be able to work for companies as legal advisor. Another professional field is that of justice administration, whether working in legal offices, as a judge, public prosecutor or legal secretary, or as a court solicitor.

The double degree will position you perfectly to integrate into the public administration at a national, autonomous community, local or even European level, or in other international organisations.

Equally, you may be employed in the private sphere, in firms of advisers, consultancy, research, demoscopic studies’ performance and management, or as a technician and adviser to political parties, unions, business associations, workers’ associations, professional bodies, etc. Equally, numerous entities (associations, cooperative, NGOs, etc.) look for professionals with a wide range of skills such as those offered by this double degree. The media also offer places for people with legal knowledge and expertise in political analysis, public administration and international relations. On the other hand, there are opportunities in international bodies and those acting abroad. Practical work experience

Students have to gain a series of credits, as part of their studies, which correspond to internships in companies or institutions relating to the bachelor’s degree they are studying. The teaching load is determined in accordance with the curriculum.

Bachelor's thesis

To obtain the degree, students have to complete a bachelor's thesis (TFG) which serves to assess the general skills they have acquired over the course of the degree programme and offers a summary of the skills and knowledge they have acquired. The teaching load of the thesis depends on the curriculum of the degree.

Mobility

Students can complete part of their degree programme abroad through the Erasmus programme, which enables them to carry on their studies whilst undertaking an international exchange with academic value in a European university.

They also have access to grants for placements at Spanish universities and those on other continents, thanks to bilateral agreements, the SICUE programme and the expansion of the Erasmus+ Programme.
