Careers

There are many fields in which graduates can work professionally:

  • Health: prevention and recovery of health through physical activity and sport, functional adaptation.
  • Physical activity and sport education: in a formal capacity, it is necessary to have the Master in Teacher Training for ESO, Upper secondary school education and Vocational training - (ESO, upper secondary school education, physical activity and sport training cycles and sports education) and in a non formal capacity (school sports, extra-curricular activities)
  • Sports performance: physical training for competitive and amateur sport, sports rehabilitation.
  • Management of sport services in the public or private sphere: facilities, projects, human resources, technical experts.
  • Physical activity and sport as elements of leisure and recreation: adventure sports, sport and tourism.
  • Physical and sporting activity as a social intervention tool: work with specific groups (older people, people with disabilities, young people at risk of social exclusion).

In the era of globalization, society demands a high level of professional preparation; this is reflected to a great extent in the regulation of the exercise of sport professions (Law 3/2008, DOGC 5123, 02/05/2008, and subsequent amendments).

The Law on the exercise of sport professions means it is no longer possible to provide professional services without minimum knowledge or without a qualification of some kind (this posed a risk to people's health and safety). This law means that, as stated in the preamble, from the time it enters into force, the various professional sport activities in Catalonia will be carried out by people with a minimum level of training in their respective field. Naturally, the quality of the Catalan sport system depends to a large degree on this process of progressive incorporation of duly qualified professionals.

Up to now, (to begin with the Law regulates four professions) graduates will be able to work as physical education teachers, sports monitors, sports coaches (in relation to a specific sport) and sports managers.

The School provides:

Practical work experience

Within the framework of their studies, students have to acquire a series of credits that correspond to practical work experience placements , in companies or institutions related with the degree that they are studying. The teaching load is determined in accordance with the curriculum.

Bachelor's thesis

To obtain the degree, students have to complete a bachelor's thesis (TFG) which serves to assess the general skills they have acquired over the course of the degree programme and offers a summary of the skills and knowledge they have acquired. The teaching load of the thesis depends on the curriculum of the degree.

Mobility

Students can complete part of their degree programme abroad through the Erasmus programme, which enables them to carry on their studies whilst undertaking an international exchange with academic value in a European university.

They also have access to grants for placements at Spanish universities and those on other continents, thanks to bilateral agreements, the SICUE programme and the expansion of the Erasmus+ Programme.
