Beatriz Lopez is a Computer Engineer from the UAB (1986) and a PhD in Computer Science from the UPC (1993). She developed her doctoral thesis at the CSIC, thanks to her participation in European projects and an FPI grant. Dr. López has worked in several companies as a professional in computer science (computer services for photocomposition, insurance, software maintenance), and as a teacher at the URV, UOC and UdG, where she currently works. In 2011 she co-founded the Newronia company driven mainly by two students from the UdG when they finished their doctorate.
B. López coordinates the research laboratory on Artificial Intelligence applied to Medicine and Health of the eXiT research group at the University of Girona. She has over 30 years of research experience and has published 3 books and over 150 journal and conference articles. She was president of the Catalan Association of Artificial Intelligence (member of EurAI.org) during 2014-2016, and vice-president in the period 2010-2014. B. López is a member of several scientific committees of prestigious international conferences and journals. She has participated in 9 international projects, in 25 national calls, in more than 16 research support projects, and in 20 projects financed by private companies.
Among the awards received, it is worth highlighting the recognition of the best article by the International Medical Informatics Association in 2014 for the work "Enabling the use of hereditary information from genealogical tools in systems based on medical knowledge"; the second prize in the contest of the Vall de Hebron Research Institute on "Innovation in Health" for the Noah project (2015), and the ITEA 2017 prize for the success of SMEs in the MOSHCA project. In 2018 she received the label of accredited advisor on "Technology, health and life sciences" awarded by the Generalitat of Catalonia.
