Evert Jan Baerends received an honorary doctorate from the University of Girona for his enormous contribution to the world of theoretical chemistry and, in particular, for having converted the theory of the functional of density into a very useful tool for interpreting the results of experimental chemistry, thereby establishing a bridge between theoretical and experimental groups.
