UNESCO Chair of Cultural Policies and Cooperation

CultSense

https://www.cultsense.com

The CULTSENSE project aims to address the problems of increased pressures on mobility, and tensions and conflicts between locals and travellers. By creating a specialised educational approach geared towards developing more understanding attitudes towards other cultures, CULTSENSE aims to provide tools for students (who represent the majority of young visitors) and teaching staff. By focusing on Tourism, Leisure and Culture (TLC) programmes, the project aims to provide supportive tools to be widely disseminated through different channels and networks.

Taking part are Erasmus University Rotterdam, The Netherlands (lead partner); the University of Girona, Spain; NOVIA University of Applied Sciences, Finland; the Polytechnic Institute in Viana do Castelo, Portugal; Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu, Romania; together with associate partners WYSE Travel Confederation and the Association for Education in Tourism and Leisure.

The aim is to develop tools to sensitise young travellers to help them to better understand and respect the local norms, values, beliefs and cultures of the places they visit. These tools will be developed jointly for and with students and teaching staff.  In second place, a set of pedagogic tools will be developed for the teaching staff and the education will be spread to contribute to a better relation between residents and travellers, even in busy locations.
