The Dutch company is globally active and a major producer of specialty chemicals supplying the entire polymer chain with products that help to make and modify polymers.
The company is looking for carbon friendly technologies to recycle end-of-life plastics, especially in areas that complement their existing technologies e.g. polyolefins.
Cooperation with partners would be in the frame of a research or a technical cooperation agreement.

The Dutch company is a leading global paints and coatings company and major producer of specialty chemicals.
Their sustainability strategy aims at reducing the environmental footprint across the value chain and increasing the use of renewable materials to create more value from fewer resources.
With respect to specialty chemicals the company supplies the entire polymer chain with a series of branded products that help to make polymers and improve their properties. From the production of plastic bags and shoe soles to automotive parts and solar panels, their products play a crucial role.
Sustainability is at the heart of everything the company does. It is regarded as vital for the future success of the company, society and the planet.
The company’s sustainability strategy is supported by three pillars:
- Sustainable business,
- Capable, engaged people and
- Resource efficiency - reducing the environmental footprint across the value chain and increasing the use of renewable materials to create more value from fewer resources
The world has created a gigantic pile of plastic waste – often referred to as “Plastic Soup”. Without action it could double in size over the next 10 years.
There are several ways to contribute to a solution. From making plastics biodegradable, to introducing alternative products, reducing the use of plastics and recycling.
The last one, recycling, can be a very effective solution.
The company is looking for technologies to recycle end-of-life plastics, especially in areas that complement their existing technologies and that are carbon friendly.
The current challenge is to recycle plastics, preferably poly olefins into high quality products and materials that have the same or improved performance and functionalities as traditional plastics made from oil.
The focus is on finding solutions to recycle the large waste streams.
Assessment criteria:
- Driven by sustainability
- New business model
- Implementation time
- Fits current technologies and markets (these can be new customers)
Partners are sought to develop technologies that are able to approach the level of virgin quality plastic and transform plastic waste into reusable, high-quality products and materials in the frame of a research cooperation agreement or a technical cooperation agreement.
Polyesters (PET) are excluded from the challenge. Developments to go back to monomers are also excluded from the challenge.
