Avaluació i qualificació

Activitats d'avaluació:

Descripció de l'activitat Avaluació de l'activitat %

Interactive solving of exercices and vocabulary tests. See "Criteris de qualificació". 10

Continuous assessment exam. See "Criteris de qualificació". 10
Final exam. See "Criteris de qualificació". 50

Qualificació

The evaluation involves several activities:

1) Lab/computer sessions and continuous assessment (LCA): The students will work in teams inside the lab groups. Reports and exercices must be submitted by the student teams using Moodle in pdf files before a specific deadline (usually before the next lab session). The grade is collective, but the professor can decide to give different marks if the performance of one member of the group is low.

2) A project (PRO) consisting of the recalculation of an existing mechanical element. This task will also be done in the lab teams. Everybody is responsible for the group and care will be taken to detect and penalise non collaborative members. This activity will be evaluated through several deliverables along the course to be posted in Moodle.

3) Approximately at midterm there will be an exam (PAC) consisting of an exercise of an element similar to the ones that can appear in the final exam. The exercise will ask the student to do an analysis with the knowledge acquired up to date.

4) In order to keep pace with the course, the student is expected to attend all lectures and exercise sessions in the weekly schedule. Daily (or sampling) controls will be done.

5) There will be one final exam (FE). A minimum grade of 4 is required to the student to pass the course. If the student fails this exam, he/she will be allowed to resit the exam only if RES=MAX((FE*0.5+PAC*0.1)/0.6;FE;EX*0.5+PAC*0.1+CA*0.4) is between 3.5 and 5.

The final grade (FG) will consist of two elements: the exam result (EX) and the continuous assessment (CA).

The following algorithm will be used to establish the grade:

EX = biggest of (FE*0.5+PAC*0.1)/0.6 or FE)

if FE >= 4 then

CA = (LCA+PRO)/2
FG = biggest of ((EX*0.6+CA*0.4 or EX)

else

FG = FE

Also, if the student has an attendance below 65% of the classroom sessions, does not attend the PAC, does not attend any of the lab sessions or does not deliver the PRO or any of the LCA, he/she will get a grade FG = FE.

Cheating in any of the evaluation activities is strongly advised against. If detected, it will imply a fail grade plus the corresponding academic penalties.

Criteris específics de la nota «No Presentat»:
The student will get a "No Presentat (NP)" grade if he/she doesn't sit at the final exam and does not participate in any of the continuous assessment activities or abandons them before November 1th.

Observacions

Lab/Computer room sessions:
Two of the sessions will be done with the ANSYS software in a computer room of the School.

Session description:

1- Extensometry: Bending, stress concentration, curved beam.
2- Extensometry: Impact loading. Element analysis: FBD and force analysis of a real element.
3- ANSYS: Introduction, basic 2D models.
4- ANSYS: 3D models.
5- Power transmission: Gear box.

Students are encouraged to interact with the professor in English.

All deliverables worked out by the sutdents individually or in teams must be correctly written and drawn.

All the deliverables will have a deadline after which they will not be accepted. Submissions must be done using Moodle and strictly in pdf format.
