Mechanism model building. Some mechanism models will be build in groups by the students. The model must be dimensioned according to the techniques presented in the course, must correctly perform the task and have a nice appearance.
This activity has no resit.

Exercise discussion and solving. The capability of the students to solve problems and exercises will be evaluated in groups with proposed problems and exercises to be delivered together with the lab reports.

Laboratory and computer room sessions. Session reports will be presented by student groups to show that the concepts and skills experienced and practiced in the lab sessions have been correctly understood and learned.

Qualificació

As this is a presential course, the student is advised to regularly attend the sessions. Attendance controls will be carried out during the theory, exercises and lab sessions.

The grading of each activity will be done as follows:

1) Model building (MBU):
Each model will be evaluated according to the correct use of the theory, the accuracy of the model in accomplishing the proposed task and the aspect of the model. The average grade of the models will be called MBU. The students will work in teams inside the lab groups.

2) Exercise solving (CAE):
Five deliverables will be done along with the lab sessions. The average grade will be called CAE. CAE will be done in teams inside the lab groups.

3) Lab/computer sessions continuous assessment (LCR):
Reports on each of the lab/computer sessions will be delivered by the students' teams. The grade is shared by the group but, if idle members are detected, they will be excluded from the group mark.

4) Final exam (FE):
A final exam with exercises and questions similar to the ones practiced during the course will give a specific individual grade to every student.

Every task of the 1,2 or 3 type will have a delivery deadline after which they will not be accepted.

The final grade will be:

FG = 0.3*MBU+0.15*CAE+0.25*FE+0.3*LCR

Criteris específics de la nota «No Presentat»:
The student will get a "No Presentat (NP)" grade if he/she doesn't sit at the final exam and doesn't participate in any of the continuous assessment activities or abandons them before November 1th.

Observacions

Lab/Computer room sessions:
Four of the sessions will be done in a computer room using MATLAB/SIMULINK or WORKING MODEL 2D software.

Session description:

1- Range of movement of a four-bar linkage. Grashof's law.
2- WM2D: Linkage analysis.
3- WM2D: Static and dynamic balancing of a four-bar linkage.
4- MATLAB: Four-bar linkage synthesis.
5- MATLAB: Cam design.

Language: The Moodle site of this course will contain enough information for the student to follow the contents and do the programmed activities. This documentation will be in English. Teaching, however, will be done in Catalan.

If possible, the models to be built will be actuated using simple drives.

Although the students are not supposed to master programming in MATLAB, some exercises will require the modification of MATLAB scripts to fulfill some calculation or simulation.
