Qualificació

- CONTINUOUS ASSESSMENT

The final mark to pass the subject is a 5.

The subject will be continuously assessed through the Final Exam, Midterm Exam and Suggested Classroom Activities (SCA):

1) FINAL EXAM:

It represents a 60% of the final mark of the course.

A MINIMUM SCORE of 4 is required to calculate the weighted average score, which includes the Final Exam, Midterm Exam and Suggested Classroom Activities (SCA). This average will be the overall score of the subject.

If the student scores less than 4 in the Final Exam, he/she will not be able to count the continuous assessment (Final Exam, Midterm Exam and SCAs) as part of the final mark. In this case, the student will have to do the Basic Competences Exam (BCE).

The Final Exam includes 40 multiple choice questions about concepts and short solving problems. Each question will have five possible answers, only one of which is correct. A penalty of 20% of the value of the question will be deducted for each wrong answer. There is no deduction for unanswered questions.

The final exam will last for 90 minutes.

Relevant information about the sitting of the Final Exam is described below:

i) You are permitted to use a non-programmable calculator in the exam.

ii) You are not permitted to use programmable calculators, any electronic device and/or mobile technology with an Internet connection.

iii) No formula sheet and/or lectures/notes are allowed in the exam.

2) MIDTERM EXAM:

It represents a 15% of the final mark of the course.

Remember that the material covered in the Midterm Exam will be tested again in the Final Exam.

The Midterm Exam is carried out through the Moodle page of the course. It consists of two parts:

Part 1 - Multiple choice: 20 multiple choice questions about concepts and short solving problems similar to those of the Final Exam. Each question will have five possible answers, only one of which is correct. A penalty of 20% of the value of the question will be deducted for each wrong answer. There is no deduction for unanswered questions.

Part 2 - Problem solving: Problems similar to those done in the in-class activities (at roughly the same level). There is no penalty for wrong answers in this part of the exam.

The Midterm Exam will last 90 minutes.

Relevant information about the sitting of the Midterm Exam is described below:

i) You are permitted to use a non-programmable calculator in the exam. You are not permitted to use programmable calculators.

ii) No formula sheet and/or lectures/notes are allowed in the exam.

iii) A blank sheet of paper is allowed to solve the exercises in the exam.

iv) Students must ensure they have the appropriate equipment and devices to carry out the Midterm Exam.

3) SUGGESTED CLASSROOM ACTIVITIES (SCA):

It represents a 25 % of the final mark of the course.

They are in-class activities carried out through the Moodle page of the course and must be submitted during the class.

There will be a total of 10 SCAs during the course that will be held during the regular hours of class (in-class activities)

The activities consist of a list of questions and problems related to the lecture contents of the previous week.

Out of the 10 SCAs, the 8 best scores for each student will be selected. The missed activities will count as a zero. Non-excused absences will also be counted as a zero.

The overall score of the SCA will be the average of the submitted activities (mean of the 8 best scores).

It is mandatory to do a MINIMUM OF 75 % of the SCAs to calculate the continuous assessment. If the percentage is less than 75 % the continuous assessment will not be calculated and the student must go directly to the BCE (Final Exam is not be permitted in this case).

The overall score of the activities held during the course (which represents the 25% of the final qualification) will be uploaded before the final exam.

ACTIVITIES REVIEW:

Students can revise their activities scheduling an appointment by email.

-BASIC COMPETENCES EXAM (BCE):

It has a similar format to the Final Exam, however, a MINIMUM score of 5 is required to pass it.

The scores of the continuous assessment will be cancelled. As it is a Basic Competences Exam, if the student passes it, his/her final score will be computed as 5.

Criteris específics de la nota «No Presentat»:
Students not attending to neither the continuous assessment nor the final assessment will be marked with a 'not seated' for the corresponding evaluation.

Avaluació única:
The evaluation system in EUSES - UdG is based, in general, in the continuous assessment. If the student wishes to take part in the unique pathway, he / she will need to request it in writing to the lecturer of the subject and the degree coordinator during the first two weeks of the Semester.

If the student opts for the unique pathway (non-continuous assessment):

- The student WILL NOT DO any of the activities of the continuous assessment scheduled during the course (neither SCAs nor Midterm Exam).

- The student will be assessed through a single exam, that is the Final Exam, which corresponds to the 100 % of the overall mark of the subject.

- A MINIMUM SCORE of 5 is required to pass the subject. If the score is less than 5, the student fails the subject and he/she will have the opportunity of taking the Basic Competences Exam (BCE) to pass the subject. Details of the BCE are described below.

Requisits mínims per aprovar:
CONTINUOUS ASSESSMENT:

The continuous assessment consists of two assessment activities done during the course (40% of the overall score of the subject): SCAs (25%) and Midterm Exam (15%). These activities will be carried out during regular class (dates will be available on the schedule of the course). None of them require a minimum score.

Final Exam (60%): The exam will be held at the University and includes all the units of the course. The format and features of the exam have been described in the previous section. A MINIMUM SCORE OF 4 is required to average all the activities of the continuous assessment.

In addition, Suggested Classroom Activities (SCA) attendance must be more than or equal to 75%.

A MINIMUM MARK OF 5.0 in the Continuous Assessment (SCAs, Midterm Exam and Final Exam) is required to pass the subject.

NON-CONTINUOUS ASSESSMENT (UNIQUE PATHWAY):

The student will be assessed through only one exam, that is the Final Exam (100% of the overall score).

A MINIMUM MARK OF 5.0 in the Final Exam is required to pass the subject.

If the student fails the subject, he/she will have the opportunity to take the Basic Competences Exam (BCE) to pass the subject regardless of the evaluation assessment chosen. A MINIMUM MARK of 5.0 in the BCE is required to pass the subject.

Tutoria

The tutorships will be carried out in person in enabled classrooms, and also virtually.

Comunicacio i interacció amb l'estudiantat

Communication and interaction with the students will be done in person and virtually throughout the forum of Moodle, video-conferencing means and email.

Observacions

The methodology of the subject is based on didactic units (DU).

Each DU will be related to some specific concepts, which will be first explained by the professor. After that, students will work with the concepts explained in the DUs through the Suggested Classroom Activities.

Prior to every DU, the student will have to download the notes from the Moodle and read them carefully.
