Qualificació

The course runs on a system of continuous assessment. Students must make one small essay and a final exam. Active participation in the classroom will be assessed too.

The final exam is worth 60% of the grade for the course, the small essay is worth 20% and the participation the remaining 20%.

The final exam will assess the theoretical and practical aspects of the subject.

The small essay is based on the collection and commentary of statistical data on the levels of poverty and deprivation as well as the mechanisms of social protection in Europe. There will be an introductory session class for the short essay, focusing on the databases and on the methodology to be used to write the essay. The small essays will be made in groups of three or four people. Some basic knowledge in statistics is needed in order to write the essay.

There is no pass mark for any of the assessment items (final exam, small essay and participation), but the student must get a minimum of 5 out of 10 to pass the course.

Those who have not passed the subject by the continuous evaluation system and who have obtained a minimum score of 3 out of 10 in the weighted average of the final exam, short essay and participation, may take the re-sit exam. Students who have taken a note less than 3 will have failed the subject.

The student is not allowed to take the re-sit exam if he/she has passed the continuous evaluation.

The marks of the short essay and of participation are not recoverable. The re-sit exam only serves to improve the final exam mark. In other words, the re-sit exam is worth 60% of the final grade.

The final grade for students that take the re-sit exam will be five if the student passes the subject (the weighted average of the re-sit exam, the short essay and participation is equal to or greater than 5). Otherwise, he/she will eventually get the grade obtained in the continuous assessment system.

Criteris específics de la nota «No Presentat»:
The "Not presented" grade involves only having participated in elements contained in the assessment criteria that totaled less than 50% of the total weight of the subject.
