I work in the general area of institutional economics that is concerned with how formal and informal institutions emerge and how they impact on economic, social and political variables. In this context, I have studied several subjects including fiscal and political decentralization, corruption and more generally governance quality, culture, clientelism, and the institutions of ethnically divided states. In 2020, my book Inequality and Governance was published in the Routledge Frontiers of Political Economy series.
