Salinity fluctuations in salt marsh lagoons

Xavier Casamitjana, together with other authors, has published the paper entitled “Modeling the salinity fluctuations in salt marsh lagoons” in the Journal of Hydrology. This research has been conducted within the framework of the FRAGMENTUM project, and the research line Hydrodynamics and Physical Processes in Natural Aquatic Systems of the research group.

Xavier Casamitjana and other authors from the Department of Environmental Sciences and the Institute of Aquatic Ecology of the University of Girona, the Servei de Control de Mosquits de la Badia de Roses i del Baix Ter (Mosquito Control Service of the Bay of Roses and the Baix Ter) and the Ajuntament de Torroella de Montgrí (Village Council of Torroella de Montgrí) have published the paper entitled “Modeling the salinity fluctuations in salt marsh lagoons” in the Journal of Hydrology.

The authors explain that coastal wetlands are among the most productive and fluctuating ecosystems of the world. These ecosystems, however, are affected by human activities that may change their nutrient dynamics and water regime, causing the degradation of water quality, the disappearance of lagoons and wetlands,
