BALSACH PEIG, Maria Josep


Lecturer in History of Contemporary Art
Director of the Chair of Contemporary Art and Culture
Director of the Theories of Contemporary Art Research Group of the University of Girona
Doctorate from the Autonomous University of Barcelona and is the author of several theoritical works on 20th century art and aesthetics. Her publications include Esteticisme i decadentisme a la fi de segle [Ed.] (Barcelona, 1988); Hybris i pensament tràgic (Barcelona, 1990); Poemes de Brisgòvia (Sabadell, 1992); and Joan Miró. Cosmogonies d'un món originari (Barcelona, 2007), which has received the City of Barcelona Prize. She has also received the Spaces for Art Criticism International Prize for her essay L'art immaterial d'Arnold Schönberg. She has organized and directed several exhibitions, including: "Del Nuagisme a la crisi de l'art informal" (Sabadell, 2000); and "Modernismo e avanguarda. Picasso, Miró, Dalí e la pinttura catalana nel primo novecento" (Cremona - Italy, 2003). She has been a contributor to the newspaper El País and currently contributes to the Cultura/s supplement of the newspaper La Vanguardia.
