Educational objectives
This masters aims to enable graduates to specialise in specific skills in the development of the latest and most advanced technologies in the textile, paper and graphics sectors. It is aimed at two groups, professional and research, and promotes training in R&D&I technologies at the highest level and with criteria of excellence. Its contents are focused on the needs of training in research and innovation for the entire production line and design process of textile and paper products. The contents, adapted to corresponding training needs, can be chosen by the masters student specialising in either
textiles or
paper and graphics. Both are interdisciplinary in their different training aspects, so as to achieve the objectives determined by the various common or specific materials.
Curriculum structure and description of the skills developed
The Masters in Textile, Paper and Graphic Engineering is taught with two specialisations: “Textiles”, which is offered only at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) and “Paper and Graphics” which is offered jointly by the University of Girona (UdG) and the UPC. The courses in the Paper and Graphics track aim to provide specific and specialised knowledge of the industrial sectors of pulp manufacture and paper-making and the printing process. This should guarantee the graduates’ ability to develop a professional career either in these industrial sectors or in research. During the first two terms, two modules of 30 ECTS credits each will be given, studying the primary materials, the basic and technological aspects of pulp and paper processes, aswell as the evaluation of their properties from a physical point of view. Each term there will be an alternative module (30 ECTS credits) for those students with prior knowledge of textile and paper technology who are interested in the physical and chemical phenomena of textile and/or paper processes and the analysis and more scientific and rational application of the products used in the process, including environmental aspects. These courses are optional. The third and fourth term involves the technologicalaspects specifically related to paper-making processes and in particular the graphic technologies of printing. An obligatory project or dissertation (30 ECTS credits) will allow the student to apply the knowledge acquired in a personalised way.
At the end of the masters the graduates should have acquired a series of skills.
- Knowledge and understanding of paper and graphic processes which will provide them with both a foundation and an opportunity to develop new ideas. – The ability to apply the knowledge and abilities acquired in order to resolve problems in their work and research environment.
- The ability to communicate their knowledge and conclusion on various subjects in a way that is as clear to the general public as to the specialist.
- Continuous learning ability.
Faculty profile
The teaching staff involved in the Masters in Textile, Paper and Graphic Engineering are highly qualified. More than 90% of them have professional experience in the areas of interest of the masters and experience in third cycle teaching. In fact, this experience has been evaluated by ANECA and the Quality Distinction Award was given to the doctoral programme in the same field. In addition to professional experience, the teaching staff have also made significant research contributions in the area, thus guaranteeing both the professional and the research training which this masters aims to provide, whether in the Textiles track or the Paper and Graphics track.
