Educational objectives


The main objective of the Masters in Education in Diversity is instilling in students the capabilities and skills required to apply available knowledge with the aim of promoting and optimising educational processes in situations in which some type of social and cultural diversity can be found.
The Masters in Education in Diversity aims to offer advanced academic training and professional specialisation to students who have completed diplomas in Teacher Training, Social Education or Psychology.

Curriculum structure


The masters programme is organised in compulsory (70 credits) and optional modules (20 credits).

Compulsory modules of the masters:

  • Module 1: Educational research methodology (10 credits), 2nd year
  • Module 2: Theoretical, methodological and professional aspects of educational intervention in situations of diversity (10 credits), 2nd year
  • Module 3: Arts, sciences and humanities in an education that is attentive to diversity (10 credits), 1st year
  • Module 4: Teaching and learning in a multilingual and multicultural society (10 credits), 1st year
  • Module 5: Psychoeducational intervention, diversity and multiculturalism (10 credits), 1st year
  • Practical module: practicum (15 credits)
  • Practical module: final masters report (5 credits)

Optional modules shared with other masters of the same Postgraduate Programme:

1. Masters in Educational Psychology

  • Module: Psychoeducational intervention in family and social contexts (10 credits)
  • Module: Training of educational professionals (10 credits)
  • Module: Interpersonal relations and collaborative work in education (10 credits)

2. Masters in Psychosocial Intervention

  • Module: Childhood, adolescence and family (10 credits)

3. Joint Masters in Youth and Society

  • Module: Youth policies and programmes (5 credits). Not planned for the coming year

4. Joint Masters in Women, Gender and Citizenship Studies

  • Module: Scientific and educational discourse/practices (10 credits)

The masters prioritises professionalisation and advanced academic training, even though a possible research track is expected within the compulsory modules.

Training activities to be carried out in other educational centres or organisations are included in the practicum.

People with this academic and professional profile must be equipped for educational interventions in situations of social and cultural diversity and to carry out tasks such as:

  • the design, implementation and assessment of specialised interventions
  • the design, implementation and assessment of programmes, projects and services
  • guidance and advice to individuals, groups and institutions
  • assessment of socio-educational needs
  • planning and developing research processes
  • the design, implementation and assessment of innovative educational processes

Admission profile, previous education requirements and admission and selection criteria


Primary school teachers and degree holders in Social Education, Psychology, Education and Educational Psychology, as well as other degree holders whose professional horizons include educational and social health areas.

Priority is given to applicants whose previous training includes one of the official university diplomas or degrees obtained in accordance with previous university education systems corresponding to education (Teacher Training, Social Education, Psychology, Education and Educational Psychology).

Pre-registration and registration


Pre-registration must be completed online.

First pre-registration period: will begin on 2 April and will run until 1 July 2007.

Admission decisions: on 18 July 2007.

First registration period: from 20 until 30 July 2007.

If places are still available, a new pre-registration period will be open from 20 July until 19 September 2007.

Admission to the Doctoral programme


Students can apply for admission to the doctoral course of any Official Postgraduate Programme (POP, Programes Oficials de Postgrau) at the University of Girona provided they have completed a minimum of 60 ECTS credits in a POP programme or have an official master’s degree and have completed a minimum of 300 ECTS credits in their undergraduate and postgraduate studies at a university or other centre of higher education. The applications will be reviewed by the Doctoral Council of each programme.
