Subsidised (to give a general idea of what this means, for the 2006-2007 academic year the price has been set at 24-28 € per ECTS credit; in anticipation of approval of a Government of Catalonia decree, expected by June 2007, an approximate increase of between 5% and 7% can be calculated for the 2007-2008 academic year). |

Educational objectives
Graduates will obtain solid training in the humanities and will acquire specific knowledge and basic methodological skills to develop research activity in this field through an interdisciplinary approach that will allow them to join international research groups and networks.
This is, therefore, an interdisciplinary course that aims to promote research excellence by adopting the same interdisciplinary spirit that has been behind the reforms introduced in the syllabuses of the Faculty of Arts. For this reason, courses in methodology, introduction to research and specific research will be strengthened.

Curriculum structure
The 60 credits of the masters are divided into 40 compulsory credits (10 corresponding to cross-curricular instruction and 30 to the research project) and four optional tracks (of 20 credits each).
The four tracks planned are:
1. Culture and society in the ancient world
2. Culture and society in the Middle Ages
3. Culture and society in the modern age
4. Culture and society in the contemporary age
During the first semester the classes and training activities are organised; in the second semester the research work, suitably supervised, will be carried out.
Parallel to the university teaching, a variety of seminars, courses and activities are organised along the various lines of research to complement the training of the young researchers and update the most innovative aspects of the methodology used in the various areas of research encompassed by the doctoral studies.
Career opportunities
The training acquired in a masters of this type prepares students to carry out various professional activities, such as teaching and many other activities in archives and museums, publishing houses and public or private foundations. On the other hand, we can also highlight the large number of students who join the doctoral programme as research fellows, thanks to competitive grants from the Catalan Government, the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science and the UdG itself.
