Educational objectives
The masters in Contemporary Philosophy: Trends and Issues will provide students the knowledge to understand debates on contemporary thought and prepare them methodologically to continue those debates in the future.
Curriculum structure
There is only one track, research, with a certain degree of flexibility in the subjects to be taken.
First year modules:
During the transition period to new grades system, the first year will be identified with subjects from the current grade in philosophy. Graduates in Philosophy will be exempt from these subjects.
Second year modules:
First semester (students will have to choose two of the three modules offered)
- Module 1. “Contemporary ethics” (15 ECTS credits). Type: optional. Current ethical and political issues will be analysed with special emphasis on the meaning that the concepts of good, happiness, justice, citizenship and moral life have or should have today.
- Module 2. “Contemporary aesthetics” (15 ECTS credits). Type: optional. The main aesthetic theories that try to explain pluralism, functions and practices in cotemporary aesthetic and artistic culture will be reviewed. Likewise, an in-depth look at the art world in the era of globalisation of trends will be offered.
- Module 3. “Philosophy of science and technology” (15 ECTS credits). Type: optional. Current scientific and technological practices will be dealt with in all their complexity, requiring an interdisciplinary approach to epistemology, psychology, politics and history.
Second semester
- Module 4. Research module (15 ECTS credits). Type: compulsory. In this module students will write a supervised research paper.
In addition, students must take one of the following modules:
- Module 5. “Philosophical anthropology” (15 ECTS credits). Type: optional. This deals with current philosophical debates from the perspective of how they lead to the various ways of understanding contemporary humans.
- Module 6. “Metaphysics” (15 ECTS credits). Type: optional. This deals with the concepts of current discourses that define the basic or ultimate structure of reality.

Career opportunities
- Expanding training for future philosophy teachers in secondary education.
- Training future university academics.
- Complementary training in humanities, social science and experimental science studies.
