Borrowing library materials is a service available to all members of the UdG community (students, professors, researchers and administrative services staff), as well as any other person who requests this service.
It is required that you provide your UdG identification card, (or a DNI, for extra-university members) in order to check out materials. If one patron would like to check out an item with another patron’s identification card, both persons must be present. Items checked out to one patron will only be transferred to another patron’s account when BOTH patrons are present.

The items from this center may be borrowed for up to 7 days, except those items that are referece-only, which are marked with a yellow sticker.
You may request, pcik up and return books from any UdG lirbary, regardless of where the material is located.
The conditions and loan period vary according the library where the material is located :
You may renew items at any library, or by telephone or e-mail, as long as no one has requested the item nor is it overdue.
You may reserve any item that is currently on loan. Reserved items will be held at the Circulation Desk for 7 days. If you have not claimed the materials during this period, the request will be cancelled.
You may only reserve items that are currently on loan; you may not reserve books that are currently available, unless they are located at another library. In this case, the reserve will be valid only for one day (the time necessary to go to the other library and pick up the item).
You may not reserve nor borrow more than one copy of the same title.
You can request an item on reserve from the Circulation Desk, or by telephone or e-mail, if you provide your ID number and the barcode of the item.
Both reserves and renewals will be processed once the library has approved these requests.

From the catalogue search page, click on the button "Inf. usuari" and provide the following information:
Username : Student/UdG ID Number

The system will show you the following information :
- The books you have reserved (with an H or L). An asterisk (*) next to the H or the L indicates that the item is ready for pick-up.
- The books you currently have on loan, with the return date for each.
From here you can view items currently on loan
You must return items to the library by the end of the loan period, unless you have successfully renewed the item. (This must be done PRIOR to the due date.)
You can return materials to any library desk. You may also retrun them 24 hours a day a the return box located outside the Barri Vell Campus Library.
If you do not return an item, or if you return a damaged item, you will be required to replace it with another copy of the same edition. If the particular edition is no longer available, you must replace it with an edition that most closely resembles the one that has been lost or damaged. The decision to accept an edition other than the original is left to the Borrowing Services personnel. Until this process has been completed, you will lose your borrowing privileges.
There are two types of penalties: minor penalties and major penalties.
Penalty equals 2 days of blocked privileges per day overdue.
Penalty due to frequently overdue items: For every 5 minor penalties: 15 days of suspended privileges; for every 10 minor penalties, 30 days of suspended privileges; and for every 15 minor penalties, 45 days of suspended privileges.
The penalties for frequently returning overdue items will be assessed in addition to the days of suspended privileges accrued through minor penalties. The maximum period of suspended borrowing privileges is 90 days.
If a patron already has a penalty, and returns another item late during this period, the new days of suspended privileges will be added to those already accrued.
When a patron’s library privileges are suspended, he or she is unable to borrow or make any reserves/requests.
If more than one item is returned overdue, the suspended privileges will be applied only for one item, (the one that was most overdue).
Holidays and weekends qualify as days when totaling the days of suspended privileges.
Under no circumstances can the period of suspended privileges be anulled.
- Negligence: Patrons who do not return overdue items following the receipt of the late notice will be considered negligent. If, after the final late notice has been mailed, the items are still not returned, the Borrowing Services staff will contact the director of the library to determine appopriate measures.
- People who try to remove items from the libary without permission: the penalty will be to suspend all library privileges during the 90 days following the act of robbery. This penalty will be communicated in an official letter from the director, and a copy will be sent to the Dean or Director of the School or College where the person studies, so that further measures can be taken (these additional consequences vary from School to School.)
- Patrons from other universities who try to steal items from the UdG Library: our staff will contact the university in question.
Art.6 Collection:
6.1 This collection is available as a support service for university research activities, in that researchers are allowed to remove up to fifty works (maximum 50 volumes) from different areas of the library and access these items as an independent collection. The materials will be grouped together and housed in an office or laboratory for a period of six months, during which time a professor will be responsible for the items. A renewal period is possible, at the library’s discretion. The bibliography and other materials obtained through personalized projects (CICYT, DGICYT, etc.) may qualify for the conditions of an individual research collection, by the authority of the lead researcher or manager of the project. The materials in this type of individual research collection must be housed in some area or unit of the university and they must be returned to library staff, when requested, either for library maintenance purposes or so that they can be consulted or lent to other patrons who request (recall) them. If the documents are available for check out, they will be returned to the person in charge of the individual reserach collection once the consultation has been made (in a maximum of 15 days). The library will inventory the materials in these collections as usual during the annual collection inspection.
You can recall any item from a professor that has borrowed it for Individual Research Collection purposes, so long as the professor has had the item for at least 15 days. Under no circumstances will the name of the professor, nor of the student recalling the item, be revealed (unless the student does not return the recalled item on time).
